Surfing and University
The University of Sassari is the University of Surfing
From theory to practice, from desk to table: at the University of Sassari, surfing is a key part of the educational experience. Every year, students in the Degree Program in Motor Sciences, Sports, and Human Well-being participate in educational activities and internships organized in collaboration with the Bonga Surf School in Porto Ferro.
An open-air laboratory

Porto Ferro becomes an open-air classroom, where learning moves from the concrete to the sea. Here, students experience firsthand the principles of movement, breathing, and balance, deepening their understanding of surfing as an educational tool and a means of promoting physical and mental well-being.
Academy and sea: a pioneering collaboration
The collaboration between the University of Sassari and the Bonga Surf School, launched in 2021, introduced surfing into a university curriculum for the first time in Italy . The "Water Sports" module, included in the curriculum, allows students to acquire technical and scientific skills related to surfing and earn academic credits through practical experiences at sea.

Training, research, and innovation: a value that goes beyond sport

Thanks to the support of Professor Lucia Cugusi and the Bonga Surf School team , the project has become a national benchmark for sports training in a natural environment. New training protocols are introduced each year, both in the water and on land. The university surfing experience is a journey of personal and cultural growth. Through contact with the sea and teamwork, students learn to recognize their limits, respect the environment, and develop awareness, responsibility, and community spirit.
